New Painting Techniques: Khan

NMM is a technique that takes getting used to. I finally started developing my hand at it and I decided to challenge myself even more and try to paint the new Kor'Sarro Khan model with NMM armor. But not just any NMM (you know, the classic Silver/Bronze/Gold) but shiny purple armor. After about three repaints, I think I finally got something I like (well, I've just done the arms, but I have my method down... kinda). Here's what he looks like so far in a VERY PIP stage:

What do you guys think? I'm quite happy with it personally :D

Very nice, I like it too!

The painting is very nice, but I wouldn't call this NMM... like you said "shiny" is a better description in my opinion.

Anyway, good job so far, nice color too. Looking forward to the finished figure.

Awesome job so far.

I agree with Corvus, more a wicked layered effect than NMM - bloody good though it may be.

The eyes are really intense - full of challenge.

Awesome...

I agree with Pom, the face/expression is awesome. Why swap heads though?
I like the armour, do you have a SM army to put him in, or is it just a one-off for fun?

I think it's coming along nicely. I know that any kind of highlighting like this can be time consuming but it's worth it in the end.

Nice work.

I think it's looking very nice. I tried my hand at NMM once and I have to say... it's definitely a skilled practice. Kudos to you for taking it on.

@Corvus- yeah, Alex actually brought that up. I need to find a way to make it look more reflective, he's thinking sharper white highlights will do it so I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work then I'll stick with the way I have it now- hopefully I can figure out a way to make it work!

@KSB- Well he's for my infrequently updated Space Marine army. I switched the heads so he could fit in with my marines better and not look completely like a White Scar (I didn't feel like filing down the WS symbols so I had to do something :p)

Thank you for all your kind words and encouragement everyone!!

I think your base coat is the problem. To me it looks to dark I think you should base with a lighter desaturated purple and then shade and highlight.
